Synopsis

From the diaries of Miriam Torres, who was deaf and blind since she was 7, this debut film from Venezuela tries to capture the density of a life that goes beyond limitations, swinging between documentary and fiction, and between an intellectual and sensual experience. When she turns 56, and with an everyday life of complex vitality, Miriam tries to remember the last images she perceived when she was a child, while also mastering several languages for the deaf and blind (even inventing the digital dactylogical system). Henríquez manages to avoid sensationalism and condescendence with her main character, who is played by herself, and draws a picture of thinking and pedestrian existence through this unique doc-fiction. And as it goes from black & white to color, the film also captures both an unusual Caracas –as a hallucinated yet realist city– and a series of bucolic scenes in Margarita beach, reading Venezuelan geography from an original perspective.
