News | THE RURAL EUROPE
This is a film about the rural Europe, which is hardly seen on postcards or visited by enthusiastic tourists. A film that captures unique images and stories from a millennial cultural event: the annual cow (not bull) fighting competition held in Aproz, a town in southern Switzerland. In this particular scenario, Battle of the Queens shows us a roster of very particular characters: a farmer eager to win with his “contender,” a neurotic reporter just arrived from Zurich and a teen gang looking for some fun.
Shot in black and white, the film offers visual stimulation as well as historical information about a centuries-old event that remains alive. Producer and director Nicolas Steiner successfully immerses the viewer into an atmosphere of passion and suspense, with lights and shadows.
