Synopsis
The film’s title refers not only to the actual moment in history where the events featured in the film take place, but it can also be regarded as a trigger for the question about what happens to the youth, the revolutions, and the violence after May ‘68.
Loaded with autobiographical elements, Assayas’ new film features Gilles, a young art student who is socially and politically committed, romantic and falls easily in love. After having participated in a violent episode together with his classmates against the school they attend to, he travels to Italy with a group of friends and his new girlfriend. During the trip, there will be plenty of questions and reflections about the world of action, the issue of artistic language and ideology, and the role a young student can have after such a revolutionary expression as May ‘68. Without idealizing it, Olivier Assayas throws all these questions, still valid, about the meaning and permanence of that (or this) post-May 1968. VB
