Synopsis
Unclassifiable even if their music was once defined as “psychedelic punk”, and legendary to the point of turning panic boys and girls into a sociological category, the Chilean members of Pánico (and French Carolina Tres Estrellas) never preached their mutant rock in the desert... until now. They settled in Europe a few years ago –where they have fans the size of Franz Ferdinand– and now Edi Pistolas and his people return to Chile to, precisely, “search for the sound of the desert”. And this is no metaphor: the creators of Pornostar provoke tiny avalanches of sand in the dunes, they put microphones in an old miner’s chisel, and bang the drums in the middle of a crater, all to find the telluric sounds that will shape their new album. With this adventure/experiment as their compass, Atacama’s geography –dusty towns and oasis, industrial ruins and abandoned nitrate mines– is no longer a mere landscape, and instead becomes that which the guys from Pánico came looking for: music.
