Synopsis
After such controversial Molotov cocktails as House of Tolerance, The Pornographer or Tiresia, it was inevitable that Bertrand Bonello, that hedonist genious, would be struck by the seductive power of a stage animal like Ingrid Caven. And if Bonello decides to turn that fascination into a documentary feature film that captures Caven’s magnetism on the stage, that’s definitely the best news. The woman that would marry R.W. Fassbinder and join his acting troupe performs in the Cité de la Musique in Paris, with a repertoire made of old traditional ballads and adaptations of songs by Kurt Weill, The Beatles, Erik Satie, and Schönberg. It’s a cabaret of the 21st century. And of the 20th. And of the 19th, if I must say so. She’s a resuscitated Rote Zora (from In a Year of 13 Moons), the essence of bohemian spirit alive and well, precisely now that the world is an infinitely more gray and boring place. FG
