RECORD DE ASISTENCIA: 130 MIL PERSONAS

THE ATTENDANCE HAS BEEN RECORD: 130,000 PEOPLE

The third edition of the Festival Ciudad Emergente has just ended with a highly positive outcome in terms of both the artists involved and the number of people attending it: 130,000 people enjoyed the different options offered at Centro Cultural Recoleta during the last five days. Consequently, this festival has become a successful free and massive cultural event. The increase in the number of people attending the festival- 30% more than the second edition- has supported the idea that began in 2008: to organize a festival with new tendencies and new musicians in a nice environment, with free entry for everyone. No doubt: it has been a complete success.

RESUMEN I: LAS MEJORES BANDAS NUEVAS PASARON POR EL FESTIVAL

SUMMARY: THE BEST BANDS HAVE BEEN PRESENT AT THE FESTIVAL

Nowadays, it is not easy to attract the attention of the public when many people claim that “I have already listen to this, it has already been done”. However all the musicians present at Ciudad Emergente were well received and highly applauded by the public. If we just highlight the performance of one artist per day –a whimsical and limited selection, of course- we can mention: Les Mentettes Orchestra made a brilliant pop show at the opening; Nairobi featuring Mad Professor captivated the audience –probably the largest one- with the “organic” dub and scenic movement displayed by the leader, Ivi Lee; Satan Dealers, with hard rock, encouraged one of the very few pogo dances in the Festival; FOK Electrochongo (picture), Juan Pablo Malvasio’s project (a front man who is not afraid of making the fool of himself), invited the public to join the electronic party; Los Reyes del Falsete, with a rock attitude and a pop sensitivity, were “those the record of which was been played all the time” between show and show. When they had to play, they offered a great show.

RESUMEN II: VISITAS DE LUJO

SUMMARY II: SPECIAL GUESTS

Great and new bands can be found in every country. This is why Ciudad Emergente 2010 has invited foreign artists. All of them take to their own countries the warm applauses given by the public of the Festival. We can mention the show of Marlango (picture) on Wednesday night: this was a show with jazz and blues, sweetened by the voice of Leonor Watling, and with Fito Paez as special guest. Also, Los Odio! (picture) - the Mexican band formed by members of Molotov, Café Tacuba y Fobia- made a promising debut in our country with one of the most rock shows of the festival. Lastly, Sergent García - performing in Argentina for the first time- played after the Mexican band, with a set of MC, computer, and battery. This was enough for him to make everybody dance.

RESUMEN III: OTRAS CANCIONES

SUMMARY III: OTHER SONGS

As in previous editions, Ciudad Emergente 2010’s version had various shows that complemented music. The starters were Arte Callejero’s groups: Triángulo Dorado/Bera and B2 (Photo) gave a touch of color to Patio de los Tilos, finishing their show at the same time the Festival was reaching the end. They called the attention of those who passed by Centro Cultural Recoleta and also the most photographed.

Microcine showed rock films. People were queuing for tickets before the show began. From “This is Spinal Tap” to “Anvil! The Story of Anvil”. “Oasis: Lord don’t slow me down” against “Blur: No distance left to run”. From “The Devil and Daniel Johnston” to “Loquillo, leyenda urbana”. “The T.A.M.I. show” and “Roskilde”. Rock film lovers had a blast.

DOMINGO: DIVIDIDOS, EL CIERRE IDEAL

SUNDAY: DIVIDIDOS BURSTS THE FESTIVAL

A perfect mild Sunday night gave Divididos’ show the necessary atmosphere to impact on the audience, closing Ciudad Emergente’s 2010 edition. The smashing trio - coming soon the official opening “Amapola del ‘66”- shook Centro Cultural Recoleta’s foundation with a far powerful Argentine rock dose. Mollo-Arnedo-Ciavarella’s bursting rocked the mass that was waiting for the “surprise” show at the terrace stage and those who were around the halls of Centro Cultural Recoleta.

SABADO: BAILANDO SIN PARAR CON PONCHO

SATURDAY: FULL DANCING WITH PONCHO

Saturday closed with Poncho (picture), a 45 minute show that put everyone to dance at Centro Cultural Recoleta’s Terraza. However, they were not the only ones in moving the masses, as FOK Electroghongo did the same at Villa Villa’s hall; the Uruguayans Contra las Cuerdas shaked their heads to the sound of hip-hop. There was also room for more relaxed proposals, such as Rosal, Valle de Muñecas and Chúcaro; Robot Zonda and No lo soporto, were in charge of rock; Luchi Camorra and Custodios, pop; and Suspensivos Inflamables, dub. For everyone’s taste and ear.

CIERRE DEL VIERNES CON EL SARGENTO

FRIDAY’ S CLOSING

This Friday, we had the chance to enjoy for eight hours the different artistic expressions around all the Centro Cultural Recoleta’s comfortable spots. Sergent García (picture) along with Iván Dorroman and Supa Bassie were in charge of the closing, granting us an hour of “salsamuffin”: a mix of rock, reggae, hip-hop and tropical music to dance about. Around 11 PM, the three of them left cheered by an enthusiastic audience. Previously, a great concert given by Los Odio!, warmed up the terrace stage, making a successful debut in our country.

JUEVES: NAIROBI + MAD PROFESSOR, EL FUEGO SAGRADO

NAIROBI + MAD PROFFESOR, THE HOLY FIRE

The second day of the Festival closed with an excellent show by Nairobi and Mad Professor, acclaimed as "the genius of dub." Forty-five minutes with the best tracks from "Wu Wei" -their first album released in Argentina-; some songs from their next record, entitled "Wet", and some classic tracks from the genre in which they are specialists. The crowd at the terrace of the Centro Cultural Recoleta, enjoyed the bars and strong bases – a powerful bass together with a blunt drums- sharp-edged rhythmic guitars, floating synthesizers, and Ivi Lee’s charisma, an unique front man. But the highlight of the evening was the intervention of Mad Professor right from his “spaceship” – equipped with countless knobs, echo microphones and platters to play live records -. It was a great closing for a full-day of audiovisual stimuli.

MARLANGO Y FITO PAEZ CERRARON LA NOCHE DEL MIERCOLES

MARLANGO AND FITO PAEZ CLOSED THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT

One hour of show was enough for Marlango to win a standing ovation of the crowded that attended their performance. It didn’t matter the coldness, neither the fact that it was a Wednesday night: the coats and the songs could get all the urban tribes together. Some rasta, girls with indie heart, kids, families, foreign people… all of them enjoyed the repertoire by Marlango, with the star appearance of Fito Paez. Featuring him, they played one of his classic songs: ‘Petalo de sal’.
