Workshops
Taking into account that FIBA, apart from being a space for exhibition, also constitutes a venue in which artists from different cities meet to show and discuss what they make, one of its main objectives is to ensure that the meeting actually takes place. To such effect, FIBA’s programme includes some workshops to be led entirely by artists from the visiting companies, from Argentina and abroad, where artists performing at the festival will be the privileged participants. There is also a limited number of seats for students from dramatic art schools and universities.

The technique and repertoire workshops’ main aim is to acknowledge the weight of the body and maximize a dancers’ capacity to use balance and off balance. Saarinen’s technique concentrates on awakening the senses of the feet, general alertness and focusing. The goal is to make full use of already learned techniques and find, liberate and further nourish the potential capacity of each dancer.

In Jean la chance’s staging, the music is endogenous to the show and its interpreters are exogenous to the story; there is nothing in it that indicates its presence. In the first scene of the play, a radical decision is taken as regards Bertolt Brecht’s text, since the main character disappears. The aim of the workshop is to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this proposal.

Mapiko’s dance is originally from Cabo Delgado, a province situated in the north of Mozambique. It has been created by men, as a way of confronting women, who were the ones that had the power in that community, since they cultivated the land and carried their children in their wombs.
