Margarita Bali

Margarita Bali has worked since 1972 for the Argentine dance scene; she is a choreographer, video director, teacher and video maker and she has made multidisciplinary artistic projects and installations, besides, she is co-director of the mythical Nucleodance group, a space for experimentation and avant-garde which had wide international impact and a prolific production from the mid 70s along two decades. A pioneer of the Argentine video-dance, Bali showed from the very beginning an interest for the video techniques and their likely crossing with the movement arts. Her thirty year background comprises forty choreographic works, a dozen video-dance pieces and twenty video installations. She studied with Argentine contemporary dancing pioneers –from Renate Schottelius up to Ana Kamien and Ana María Stekelman. She has converted herself into a field referent professor and her studio on Zabala street in Belgrano has hosted currently best known dancers and choreographers. Bali has been awarded many prizes along her career, from the Guggenheim and Antorchas scholarships to the International Prize from the Fundación Alexander Onassis for choreographers as well as the GETEA Arte XXI, Faena de Arte y Tecnología and Germaine Derbecq for Pizzurno Pixelado, a multidisciplinary intervention on the palacio Pizzurno which she carried out during the V Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires, among many others.
