Estrella Morente

Flamenco singer Estrella Morente has released five CDs and her voice traveled around the world with her performance of the tango “Volver” in the Almodovar movie of the same title. Morente was worn in 1980 in Granada, the daughter of famous singer Enrique Morente and dancer Aurora Carbonell. Her first record, Mi cante y un poema, released in 2001, was launched internationally by Peter Gabriel’s label, Real World. Gifted with a singular expressive force, in her performances Estrella mixes the influences she has received from her natal Granada with a contemporary approach to flamenco that is in tune with today’s multicultural world. Her record Mujeres, from 2006, pays homage to remarkable women of all times and includes the tango songs “Vuelvo al Sur” and “Nostalgias”, the latter dedicated to Susana Rinaldi. She has won many awards, amongst which are the Ondas to Best Flamenco Performer, a nomination to the Latin Grammy, and two nominations to the Amigo Awards. Her albums have reached platinum and gold sales status. Her new CD features collaborations with Michael Nyman and Pat Metheny. Estrella’s career includes roles in movies as well as performances in El amor brujo by Manuel de Falla with the Orquesta Nacional de España, and the show Estrella 1922, conceived by Enrique Morente.
