The Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers is one of France’s most important National Drama Centers. Since Pierre Debauche founded it in 1971, the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers has been positioned as one of the most active platforms for contemporary theater. It has been directed by Debauche, Raoul Sangla, Patrice Chéreau and Catherine Tasca, Jean-Pierre Vincent and, since 2001, by Jean-Louis Martinelli. The Théâtre has featured internationally renowned authors such as Bernard-Marie Koltès, and directors such as Patrice Chéreau, Luc Bondy, Matthias Langhoff, Simon Mcburney, Frank Castorf, Krystian Lupa, and Peter Sellars. Before his arrival at Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers, Jean-Louis Martinelli directed the Théâtre de Lyon (1987-92) and the Théâtre National de Strasbourg (1993-2000). He staged texts by Bernard-Marie Koltès, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Heiner Müller, Lars Norén, Racine, Chekhov and Sophocles.
