Description

It all starts when police bullets kill a baby in a confusing antidrug operation at a Boulogne District shanty town and the baby’s family puts up an altar to its memory. The tiny victim turned into the neighborhood’s newest “little saint” becomes Rosa’s obsession; she is a twelve-year-old girl, Catholic observant who tries to unmask the fake saint at all costs. She looks for Lauchi´s help, one of the shanty town dwellers, while her father –a policeman– is in charge of the unrest arising from the flawed police operation involving unexpected interwoven interests. Mystical Rose (Rosa mística) portrays current social situation highlighting several Latin American issues: marginality and poverty, popular mysticism, the Church’s concessions, drug circuits, power abuse, police repression, violence and family neglect. It is a two children’s story who get condemned out of a pack of cards which have already been shuffled in a territory far away from God’s grace which undergoes the adult world pressure always hanging over their heads.
