THE TOLCACHIR RETROSPECTIVE CONTINUES

SIGUE LA RETROSPECTIVA TOLCACHIR 04 Tue 2011

Tonight (Tuesday, 9 p.m.) will be the last performance of El viento en un violín, part of the retrospective that the Festival dedicates to Argentine actor, director and playwright Claudio Tolcachir. Apart from El viento…, the stage plays La omisión de la familia Coleman and Tercer Cuerpo were also featured in the program – all performances sold out the moment tickets went on presale. The three pieces, key to Tolcachir’s oeuvre, are staged at the cultural venue Timbre 4 in Almagro, the author’s former house turned into a small theater in 2001.

A SINGULAR EXPERIENCE

Today, Monday, and tomorrow at 6.30 p.m., as part of the “Concurso Proyectos Teatrales” section, cultural center IMPA-La Fábrica (Querandies 4290) will feature Fernando Rubio’s Pueden dejar lo que quieran, performed by the company INTIMOTEATROITINERANTE. This play as well as five others were selected by a jury composed of theater critic Carlos Pacheco, director and actor Jorge Graciosi and Alberto Ligaluppi, artistic director of Complejo Teatral de Buenos Aires, in this theater contest co-organized by the Festival and the Instituto Nacional de Teatro.

TEATRO PORTEÑO AQUÍ Y AHORA  03 Mon 2011

Monday offers a rich and varied menu of theatrical delights from the “Obras porteñas ya estrenadas” section, which includes a selection of sixteen plays from the current local theater scene. Andrea Garrote’s Niños del Limbo, performed by the company Perfecta Anarquía, will be staged at 4 p.m. at Beckett Teatro (Guardia Vieja 3556). Maruja Bustamante’s Paraná Porá – with Monina Bonelli, Valeria Lois and Sonia Álvarez on the harp – will go on stage at 5 p.m. at Teatro SHA (Sarmiento 2255). And Margarita Bail’s Hombre rebobinado, performed by company Nucleodanza Digital, will begin at 8 p.m. at Sala Loft (Jorge Newbery 3571 1° “7”).

Today, Sunday, Ich schau dir in die Augen, gesellschaftlicher Verblendungszusammenhang! (I look into your eyes, social context of deception) will be staged for the last time, at 5 p.m. at Teatro Presidente Alvear. René Polesch’s play is performed by the company Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and stars Fabian Hinrichs. Tickets are still available, starting at 30 pesos: they can be purchased on this website or in person at Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530), from 11 in the morning.

TALK AND SINGING ABOUT MEDEA

Odile Sankara is one of most prominent actresses and social activists in African arts. On the occasion of her visit to Buenos Aires to perform the French-African version of Euripides’ tragedy, she will talk with the audience about her working methods and motivations today (Sunday) at 3 p.m. at Teatro San Martín. The artist’s talk, moderated by Gabriel Chwojnik, will also feature singers from the play’s chorus. After the words, there will be an informal singing-technique workshop. Admission for this activity is free as usual, subject to seating availability.

Tonight’s performance at 8 p.m. of Ich schau dir in die Augen, gesellschaftlicher Verblendungszusammenhang! (I look into your eyes, social context of deception!), at the Teatro Presidente Alvear, offers an attractive bonus after the show: its playwright, René Pollesch, and the lead actor, Fabian Hinrichs, will talk with the audience, with theater researcher and teacher Federico Irazábal serving as moderator. And tomorrow, Sunday, the play will be performed for the last time, at 5 p.m. Tickets are still available for both presentations: the price starting at 30 pesos, tickets can be purchased on this website or in person at Teatro San Martín (Av. DOUBLE FEATURE BY CALDERÓN

Chilean Guillermo Calderón, one of most poignant authors and directors in Chile’s contemporary theater scene, brings to this edition of the Festival the double bill of Villa + Discurso, two unique yet complementary short pieces which will be performed back-to-back with a brief intermission. Today, Saturday, and tomorrow will be the last days to enjoy these stage productions performed by actresses Francisca Lewin, Macarena Zamudio and Carla Romero, at Parque de la Memoria (Av. Costanera Norte - Rafael Obligado 6745, on grounds adjacent to the University of Buenos Aires campus). The plays’ theme and performance space are very much related: "I’m sure that the intellectual and emotional connection will be more likely than in other places,” the author said with regard to this.

Today, Friday, the Festival offers a variety of activities. Within the “Obras del interior” section, Kruvikas, by Misiones-based group of puppeteers Kossa Nostra (directed by Marcelo Reynoso), will be staged today at 4 p.m at Teatro del Pueblo, Av. Roque Sáenz Peña 943. At the same time, with free admission (subject to room capacity), German sociologist, composer and theater director Heiner Goebbels will give a master class at the Sala Cunil Cabanellas of Teatro San Martín. And, in the evening, Ich schau dir in die Augen, gesellschaftlicher Verblendungszusammenhang! (I look into your eyes, social context of deception!) will be performed by company Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz at 8 p.m. at Teatro Presidente Alvear. “PROYECTOCLÁSICO” BEGINS

COMIENZA “PROYECTOCLÁSICO” 30 Fri 2011

Today’s presentation of Alfredo Ramos’s Curepí (at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.), based on Oscar Wilde’s Salome, will open the “ProyectoClásico” section, one of the new features of this 2011 edition, which will be hosted at the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas. This section, created and curated by Matías Umpierrez, features three outstanding local theater directors and their adaptations of world classics. Other plays scheduled for today include: Si es amor de verdad, me dirás cuánto entonces (at 7.30 p.m. and 10 p.m.) by Beatriz Catani and Quico García, adapted from William Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. Then the series of plays continues on Saturday 1 (at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.) with Hécuba o el gineceo canino, by Emilio García Wehbi, from Euripides’ Hecuba (text included: Bufido, by Nicolás Prividera).

The stage production Ich schau dir in die Augen, gesellschaftlicher Verblendungszusammenhang! (I’m looking into your eyes, social context of deception!) will be performed on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday 2 at 5 p.m. at Teatro Presidente Alvear, signaling the arrival in Buenos Aires of German régisseur René Pollesch, one of the world’s most prominent contemporary theater directors. This will be an opportunity to see the extraordinary dramatic-physical live performance of actor Fabian Hinrichs. As an added value, after the second presentation (Saturday), they will give a public talk, with theater researcher and teacher Federico Irazábal serving as moderator.
