Biography

Trombonist and composer Ramón Fossati was born in Barcelona in 1965, where he started his music career. When he moved to Paris, in 1989, he founded and led the Paris-Barcelona Swing Connection with vibraphonist Oriol Bordas, touring with the ensemble around Europe between 1990 and 1995. He has played in several bands: Jean-Pierre Derouard Big Band, Laurent Bronner Quintet, Damon Brown Quintet, Big Band de Bourg la Reine, Puissance Jazz Big Band, Des D’où? Dingues, Mambomobile. Fossati currently works with different ensembles between Catalonia and Paris: the French-Catalonian quartet Five in Orbit; his own French-American sextet; the Ramón Fossati Sextet, together with Ronald Baker and Olivier Brandily; The Black Key quintet, with Ignasi Terraza and Toni Solà; and the big band of French drummer Jean-Pierre Derouard, both as a trombonist and arranger. Also, he regularly performs at major festivals around the world. He has collaborated with musicians such as Frank Wess, Wild Bill Davis, Teddy Edwards, Nicholas Payton, Damon Brown, Pierrick Pédron and Jan Harrington. In December 2007, he won the Premio Enderrock for Best Jazz Album for The Black Key, together with Toni Solà and Ignasi Terraza Trío. In this edition of BAJ, Fossati will introduce his most recent project: a trio with Horacio Fumero (double bass) and David Xirgu (drums), which plays his own repertoire.
