Paula Shocron Trío
Synopsis
Ever since its creation in 2010, the trio led by Rosario-born pianist Paula Shocron with Juan
Manuel Bayón (double bass) and Bruno Varela (drums) has been highly active playing jazz clubs and recording albums, such as Our Delight and Serenade in Blue on Rivorecords, as well as the digital release of a live performance. The trio’s repertoire includes mainly standards as well as original compositions. Throughout these years, the band has featured musicians like Jerónimo Carmona, Eloy Michelini, Pablo Díaz, Carto Brandán, Ezequiel Dutil and Luciano Ruggieri, among others. Born in 1980, Shocron is regarded by fellow musicians and critics as one of today’s greatest jazz artists, having performed diverse material and in various band settings. Strictly speaking, her first release was La voz que te lleva, a solo album featuring new versions of Monk’s classics. It was followed by Percepciones (in a quartet with Marcelo Gutfraind) and Urbes. Her fourth album was Homenaje dedicado a la música de Andrew Hill, and her fifth, El enigma, was recorded in a duo with saxophonist Pablo Puntoriero, with whom she opened for pianist McCoy Tyner in Buenos Aires. She has also written music for a twelve-piece ensemble, received several awards and appeared on albums by other musicians.
