RUBÉN RADA & ORQUESTA TÍPICA DEL RÍO DE LA PLATA, CON JUAN CARLOS COPES 's biography

RUBÉN RADA & ORQUESTA TÍPICA DEL RÍO DE LA PLATA, CON JUAN CARLOS COPES

From his beginnings in the group El Kinto in the late 60s, Rubén Rada has been sort of a musical sponge combining the Uruguayan tradition with the most diverse influences. A singer, percussionist and composer, he has made a career in candombe and murga as well as in rock and jazz, becoming one of the pioneers of the candombe-beat fusion genre. His artistic weight is best summed up by what happened in Berlin last year: the city honored him with three days of concerts and debates about his career. He is no stranger to the culture of Tango either: he is the author of the delicious “Candombe para Gardel.” So, in this edition, he will present the unreleased tango song “Araca con el tango,” written to celebrate the recognition of Tango as Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Three Uruguayan guitarists will join him: Guzmán Mendaro, Poli Rodríguez and Nicolás Ibarburu.
Within the framework of the same Tango celebration, the Orquesta Típica del Río de la Plata will deliver a special performance featuring major musicians from the two banks. With pianist Andrés Linetzky in charge of the arrangements and musical direction, the orchestra—gathering instrumentalists, singers and an exclusive repertoire of contemporary composers from both banks of the Río de la Plata—will perform at the Festival for second year in a row. This musical project revives a tradition founded by tango pioneers over a century ago and continued in the present with the panorama of musical exchange between the two countries. On the Uruguayan side, the musicians invited are Edú “Pitufo” Lombardo and Pablo “Pinocho” Routin—pillars of murga singing, who have worked with Jaime Roos, Fernando Cabrera and Jorge Drexler—and the ensemble La Murguera.
For the grand finale, Juan Carlos Copes will dance with Johana Copes.
