Concertstop

A full schedule of music shows—laid out in the sections Special Productions, Exclusive Concerts and Panorama—highlights the main objectives of the Festival: the creation of new material, the heritage rescue and the promotion of work by new composers, with special emphasis on diversity and excellence. In this edition, the Panorama section gains special prominence with the active participation of event coordinators of some of the main tango circuits of Buenos Aires.

Dance Showstop

This section highlights the stage dimension of tango dancing, its exquisite tradition, its evolution, its possibilities of exploration and fusion with other languages. This edition’s guests of honor are Ana María Stekelman and María Nieves. The program brings major figures together with up-and-coming talents and, this year, features the invaluable collaboration of dancer and choreographer Nélida Rodríguez, who is also responsible for the staging of some of the culminating events of the Dance World Cup.

 

Milongas, Parties and Other Eveningstop

Traditional and heterodox milongas are part of the same tango celebration. The city’s greatest popular party at the Centro Municipal de Exposiciones and also a dance floor livened up by multidisciplinary encounters, live orchestras, dance exhibitions, performances, electro-tango, summits of DJs and VJs. The grand opening and closing milongas and the welcome ball for the 400 couples that will arrive to compete at the Dance World Cup. A whole series of activities to keep up the festive spirit that defines this great gathering in the city.

 

Dance Classestop

As is a tradition of the Festival, this section offers a full schedule of free dance classes covering diverse techniques and styles. The teachers are prominent dancers from different generations, and instructors from renowned schools who will provide training on salon and stage tango. For intermediate and advanced students, there will be themed classes; and those who want to take their first dance steps will be guided by the most prestigious schools of Buenos Aires. This class schedule was designed with the purpose of making Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup a stimulating environment for all those who wish to experience the pleasure of tango dancing, so that the dance floors will always be crowded with expert milonga enthusiasts and new lovers of the genre.

Documentary Filmstop

The film section of the Tango Festival and World Cup—programmed by BAFICI—features this year documentary films that reflect the thinking of part of the tango movement of these last years. The search, the exploration, the revival and the reunion with a language that is commonly used again are portrayed in these titles: Orquesta Típica, A puro gesto, Si sos brujo: una historia de tango, and El hombre que baila.

 

Outreach, Meetings & Conferencestop

The Festival and Dance World Cup, gathering large audiences, are the opportunity and ideal framework for carrying out multiple activities related to the genre. The program expands its borders beyond entertainment, to offer educational spaces fostering participation and reflection. They include book presentations, conferences, debates, classes and meetings with collectors.

 

Permanent Activitiestop

The facilities of the Centro Municipal de Exposiciones will host themed, historical and photographic exhibitions that will bring visitors closer to objects of heritage value and to a visual record of the live scene of Tango.

Product Fairtop

The traditional Product Fair of the greatest tango event will showcase its variety of products at the privileged space of the Centro Municipal de Exposiciones. This fair fundamentally aims at bringing the products from small and middle entrepreneurs to the local public—considering the large audiences attending the Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup—and supporting the internationalization of the “tango product,” given the remarkable attendance of visitors from different countries.

World Dance Championshiptop

The great annual challenge: the best dancers contest in Buenos Aires for the world title in the categories of Salon Tango and Stage Tango. Hundreds of couples, from Argentina and abroad, will be judged by a panel of remarkable artists. The two exciting finals will be held at the mythical Luna Park stadium.
