A SUNDAY ENJOYED TO THE FULLEST

27 August 2012
EL DOMINGO SE VIVIÓ A PLENO

On a cold Sunday afternoon, cloudy to sunny at times, warmth came from tango and the crowds swamping the Centro de Exposiciones. It was the last day for concerts and other attractions at the main venue of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup, which will end tomorrow, Tuesday, with the Stage Tango final at the Luna Park stadium and having drawn over half a million people in total in the 2012 edition. Visitors enjoyed to the fullest a day of dancing, cortes y quebradas and beautiful choreography. Sunday’s program included the original stage production by Reenganche Tango Ballet, which explores a physical dialogue between soccer and dance, in the early afternoon; then Tempotango’s original choreography; and the evening’s grand closing milonga (with dancing couples of all ages) and the champions’ gala, preceding the heartfelt concert by Raúl Lavié at nightfall.

“This is a gratifying experience for us. Coming to this city and finding everything about tango in a single place is priceless,” remarked Thomas, a 6.2-feet tall sturdy Australian who, together with his partner Anika, dropped by on Saturday and Sunday looking for more and more tango. During these two weeks, tourists like them – of over fifteen nationalities and from different continents (70 thousand as La Nación newspaper reported in yesterday’s issue) – have visited the world’s major tango event, which has already become one of the Buenos Aires city’s major tourist-cultural attractions by virtue of its own quality. This makes us proud.
