Synopsis

Chris Petit’s early film career included a number of commercial features, but years ago, as he also gained a reputation as a writer, he committed himself passionately to freedom and the inventive possibilities of the new, relatively low budget “digital” cinema. The result has been a series of inventing, very personal and original film essays, including London Orbital, the second (the first was The Falconer) of two collaborations with the poet, novelist, polemical essayist, mapper and walker of London’s history, Iain Sinclair. The film is a poetic, digressing, multi-dimensional montage of images, and a dialogue between the two filmmakers and writers as they circle (one on foot, the other by car) and describes one of the longest by-passes in the world, the M25 that circles London. An explorative, verbal and visual essay on a new film form.
