Synopsis

In an increasingly automated society, the presence of cars on the streets grows on a daily bases. Who dominates who? Auto*mate (that could be explained as automaton, but also as checkmate to a car) is an essay about the relations between humans and their machines. The speed that dominates modern life becomes physical in the streets of big cities –Buenos Aires or Prague- dominated by the absolute presence of noise, smog, cars, motorcycles and pedestrians. Combining animation, home movies, music, and an uneasy camera, it begins with a traffic accident to later develop an intimate and emotional view; this documentary goes deep into the human relationships that surround that indomitable phenomenon. But it does not merely describe a social situation; it also bets on activism to find a solution for a problem that’s affecting citizens from all over the world.
