Synopsis

Little Natan –who is only five years old– senses this trip with his father Jorge is not just like any another trip, it´s the final chapter before leaving Mexican –father– land towards the one of his mother’s –Italian– ancestors. However, far from becoming a traumatic knot, the family’s breakup with the past opens up a new perspective for father and son on their way to the coral reef of Banco Chinchorro, where the bond between them grows following the rhythm of their contact with nature. Scuba diving with the characters in Alamar allows us to expand an entire universe of transmitted and incorporated experiences; as if this surprising –ecstatic, lyrical, oceanic– film by Gonzalez Rubio never ran out of new hidden secrets to reveal, and needed to swim between documentary and fiction in order to find them. With no need to chase impossible whales, Alamar proves that (cinematographic) miracles do happen.
