Synopsis

Trash bags, paper, shower curtains: these were the elements used for haute couture in East Berlin before the Wall fell. The underground scene was bursting in every street, fashion shows were set up in every basement, where punk bands strummed the few chords they knew, and people just got together to celebrate for no particular reason. Filmmaker Marco Wilms, who was a model back then, now goes back to those places to relive and describe the spirit of that period and the conditions that made it possible. For that, he organizes a fashion show featuring the stars from the old days: designer Sabine von Oettingen, photographer Robert Paris, and stylist Frank Schäfer are some of the characters joining the task of recovering old memories, anecdotes, and an impressive film archive of concerts, fashion shows, and other demonstrations of the late 1980s avant-garde. What better way to talk about the two Germanies prior to the fall of the Wall, about its people and influences, than with lots of music, prosthetics, and glitter?
