Synopsis

A multidirectional portrait of Chilean youth during the early 1970s, this documentary creates a powerful view of a certain Latin American revolutionary fervor from those ephemeral years. Shaped by the most radical Latin American political cinema of those years (but also with a lot of the fun from critical pop), Carlos Flores moves between the pamphlet and the cinema verité –including the poll-film and the creative documentary– without ever stopping to separate between techniques and genres like collage, animation, comedy, and poetry. Made a year before Raul Ruiz’s Little White Dove(1973) –another landmark in the representation of youth before the Pinochet coup– Descomedidos y chascones has a very strange vitality for 1970s political cinema, specially because it superposes depictions, aesthetics and heterogeneous voices. Also, the documentary features music that was specially written by the legendary Chilean band Los Jaivas, who would move to Argentina a year later.
