Synopsis

The tensions inside a classroom –as told from the point of view of a girl– build a narration where school pranks begin to be guided by an obsession that becomes more dangerous as it grows deeper. Juliette is a twelve-year-old good student, who is congratulated by her French teacher, Madame Solenska. The girl starts to have a rather obsessive relation with her teacher and feeling jealous of Antoine, one of her classmates. With a certain twist on the classic films about the loss of innocence and some lucid notes on school conflict, Myriam Aziza builds a framework to scrutinize Juliette’s world; she manages to capture, with no condescension or plastic tenderness, the tones that range from an imminent sexual awakening to altered states of mind. This way, and from a different perspective, French cinema keeps following the tribulations –increased during the last decade– of the contemporary forms of formal education.
