Synopsis

It’s hard to admit it, but resentment is bliss. Furthermore: resentment –romantic comedies have already taught us this– is spinach for the muscles of classicism. What better city than Paris to be cinematographically wandering in resentment with a broken heart? Valérie Donzelli decides to anchor her disaffection in Paris. And she knows that’s a big responsibility –even if comedy governs her film. That’s why she throws her body and soul into it, and also throws in dance steps, walks through the parks, casual encounters, and women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and other routines, the kind that are only good when we don’t want to forget someone (and we know we will). She directs, co-writes and –honoring her lineage of actors– stars in The Queen of Hearts. Donzelli focuses on relief through sex, frontally displaying what the absence of courage –or realism– usually sets aside. With bravery and cinephile affection, Donzelli and her first feature celebrate the impossible: filming something real in an enchanted way.
