Synopsis
As a consequence of the construction work for the title’s avenue in Recife, the people living in the seashore neighborhood of Brasília Teimosa were relocated. Home video artist Fabio, manicure Débora, fisherman Pirambu, and little Cauã, they all form a web of relations that structures the film: each one opens the door for us to enter into the universe of the other. Débora hires Fabio to make his Big Brother audition tape; Cauã turns 5 disguised as Spiderman, Débora poses in a bikini by the ocean. Among Fabio’s images there are also some emblematic records from not long ago: the destruction of the old Brasília Teimosa and Lula’s historic visit to the place during his presidential campaign. From the inner perspective of the homes, in the everyday work of the people living in them, dialogs emerge naturally, and with them also their desires, memories and wishes. Defiant Brasilia tells the story of the neighborhood transformation from the people’s subjectivities (instead of making a record of the transforming event itself) and turns into a multi-sensorial portrait of that community.
