Synopsis
The city of Vrindanava is located in the north of India, and its name comes from the story of goddess Vrinda, who got stopped in a forest (vana) and became an important geographic spot in the Hindu folklore as well as a main site for religious pilgrimages. Shot entirely in India, this observation documentary by Ernesto Baca dives into every detail of the region’s ritual celebrations with a plural and attentive eye. With no interviews or explanatory voice-over, the film moves away from any sort of journalistic or merely informative approach, and sets out to be a full sensorial journey, revealing the elementary particles and monumental framings for the development of a intoxicating social-spiritual passion. Featuring Baca’s distinctive freedom for visual and audio experimentation, Vrindanava is a transforming experience for our Western perception of Hindu culture.
