Synopsis

A rare film, prophetic, brings together the spirit of the nouvelle vague and beatnik in a Buenos Aires that foreshadows future social upheavals of the ‘70s, with a half-critical half-warm gaze. Porteña to the bitter end, vital to the max, Coup de Grace is not only the true reflection of a period in time and place, and its fauna –the mythical Bar Moderno–; it is a film teeming with aesthetics achievements, made this morning. A film that, just like its characters –low-lifes, artists, taxi-boys, mercenaries– make its own rules, between bebop and Manal’s rabid rock. There is little difference between life and cinema in this essential work, from just yesterday, which points to the present and its urgency. For those who are not familiar with it would be, no doubt, a revelation: that of the only beat and rocker film we had, thanks to an overflow of talent.
