Jonathan Demme

He was born in Baldwin, USA, in 1944. In 1991 he won the Oscar for Best Director for Silence of the Lambs. He also directed Philadelphia (1993; winner of two Oscars), The Agronomist (2003; Bafici ‘04), Neil Young: Heart of Gold (2006) and Rachel Getting Married (2008), among other films.

Georges Méliès

He was born in Paris in 1861. He was a stage director, journalist, drawing artist, illusionist and inventor. He went to the first film projection in history, and between 1896 and 1913 directed around 500 pioneering fiction films. He died in 1938.
