Synopsis
Attention: alert (not an alarm: do you know any alarm that is good?), here is senior-feel good hit of the year. It sounds old fashioned, but Et si on vivait tous ensemble? manages to avoid the chemistry of “old people rebelling themselves” that often implies being a victim of the trident from hell (emotion, life lessons, and self aid manuals) and turns into a surprisingly believable, loveable, and even naughty movie. Well, those are the things that happen when you shoot in Paris without being an astounded Woody Allen, and when you direct actors (Jane Fonda, Pierre Richard, Claude Rich, Geraldine Chaplin) without being an astounded Woody Allen. Under the premise of saving one of their own from the asylum his son wants to send him to, a gang-spirited life starts to unravel and develops into a strange thing that unwarily fuses lame geezer-exploitation and its nostalgic hip-moving rhythms with a heart similar to Friends and The Barbarian Invasions but without a condescending final message.
