Synopsis
It happens everywherEdición: it always arises your curiosity when a foreign filmmaker shoots in your country. It is not a question of nationalism. It’s simply intriguing to know how the places, habits and culture you might sometimes take for granted are seen by someone who has barely spent a couple of weeks at the place. The International Sign for Choking is centered in the experience of a screenwriter who travels to Buenos Aires with the excuse of writing a script, but is actually looking for a woman from his past. In this journey he meets another American –played by Sophia Takal– and the movie is based on their relationship. By means of short frames and locations that are difficult to recognize, Weintraub paints a clear portrait of the experiences of a man lost in a sort of personal and artistic limbo. The film argues that even if you can travel to the other side of the world, you cannot escape from yourself. That is, quoting Moris, the most delightful “porteño” element in this original film.
