Synopsis
The “Festival de Marcha” was organized by the homonymous magazine in Montevideo, Uruguay, during the Sixties. Apart from the exhibitions, the magazine gave a prize to the best film of the year. But in 1967 the event took a particular spin. In the middle of an infuriating economic and political crisis, Cuban films were rescued from forgotten storage deposits, and May 1968 in France –among other historical events– became a main character in the film screen. In that context, the cinematheque this documentary focuses on was born with a film selection more linked to political issues, and a much more combative cinema that questioned several situations that battered the so called Third World countries. Lucía Jacob goes through this story in which the production and distribution of political cinema positioned itself as a battlefield in response to that time’s political circumstances.
