Synopsis
After many years, Spain was preparing to deal with the crimes of Franco. For the first time ever the country was faced with the possibility of calling crime by its name, and break the silence in order to walk through the pain, shame, and humiliation of those years. Conflict erupted when Judge Baltasar Garzón opened the possibility of investigating the events and possibly labeling them as crimes against humanity. After being declared incompetent, accused of malfeasance –something like making a completely arbitrary decision– and suspended, Garzón became the figure who opened the way for a battle of ideologies and interests. The film follows the case through testimonies, explications, and documentary footage in a tour where you cannot miss the connections with Argentine history. To reflect on the phantom of Franco’s regime today faces the huge change implied in finally talking about genocide.
