Synopsis
Cristóbal Jodorowsky, son of the director of El topo and The Holy Mountain, is the main believer in psycho-shamanism, the spiritual healing technique created by his father Alejandro. Psycho-shamanism may very well be a pseudo-science, a charlatan activity, or an artistic form depending on the eye of the beholder, and starts off with the premise that a magical/symbolic/sacred act can change the way the unconscious behaves, and therefore solve certain psychological traumas. Uh-huh. Since it seems hard to understand when we put it in those abstract terms, what better way to see what it is than letting ourselves be guided by Jodorowsky Jr. in an amazing theoretic-practical tour through the different sides of psycho-magic. Jodorowsky explains his therapeutic work in courses and seminars, applies it on people in a state of trance, naked and crying, and travels through Latin America in search of the origins of the shaman knowledge. This way, he unveils prejudice and superstition in order to present us a world of ideas, rituals, and characters one needs to see in order to believe –like that person who stands in a dark room and project’s his voice to communicate with several angels at the same time.
