Synopsis
“But everybody says this place is beautiful / And you’d be so crazy to say goodbye / But everything’s the same this town is pitiful / And I’ll be gettin’ out as soon as I can fly / Life goes by on a Talihina sky”, sings Caleb Followill at the end of Youth and Young Manhood, the first album by Kings of Leon, in the hidden track that provided the name for this documentary about the Nashville band, named after Leon, the grandfather of the three brothers and their cousin, who also lives in Talihina, the town that named the hidden song that had also been kept hidden in the first edition of the seminal EP Holy Roller Novocaine. Origins are a fundamental idea in Talihina Sky, in which the Kings of Leon are the stars of a family reunion Mitchell uses to portray the musicians’ childhood. Some glorious archive footage shows their past when they were dedicated to God, as well as fragments of songs played in packed stadiums that celebrate an unbeatable present. But the documentary rises thanks to the Followill’s main concern: the fact that future of the family’s youngest generation might be in hell.
