Synopsis

What is like to live in the world of painting? No, not the world of the artists with their galleries and museums, but the world of paintings: inside the paintings. There are characters that are already painted and colored, others who still need to be colored up, or haven’t been drawn yet. It’s a parallel world with its own rules and various threats. The adventures of this surreal world of castles, forests, and characters whose differences lie in the degree of their creative making are some of Le Tableau’s attractive features. But this is a film in which you can enjoy not only the storytelling but also the plasticity of the images, which refer to different art styles. Veteran Jean-François Laguionie’s master mind reveals itself as we get fully inside this dream world filled with the most incredible colors, as he tells the story of a journey of initiation through a world with different rules. And without forcing our imagination into painting, or vice-versa, since it manages to make that world as fantastic as it is consistent.
