Synopsis
The Zellner are trying for some biblical exploit. Yet they’re not throwing the rock like David, but climbing on their own Goliath-size talents: their ability to observe and perform an X-ray of human nature but turning it into something as natural as a highway –something more appropriate for bastard slackavetes’ post-Generation X. In fact, that’s how Goliath begins: congested, featuring the picture of a man, his cat, and his scratched ex-wife. Goliath turns deadpan humor into the David that will beat the script, almost tan excuse to build an endowed drama, a dehydrated but brilliant (glazed) comedy that stands only on the basis of a guy who is fed up with his mediocre, bogged down job, recently divorced, and looking for his lost scratching cat. Aware of both its character’s unease and its hilarious comedy elements (even in devastating moments such as the signing of the divorce papers), Goliath is as dark as it is entertaining, and also a proof of the Zellners’s unique view of the world.
