Synopsis
Bert is fifteen years old, and in a typical problem from that age (and from comedies about that age): he’s still a virgin. But Bert also has an unusual concern: he’s convinced that he will die very soon. So there’s a double urgency for his first time to happen. And one single person Bert believes may save him from his cruel fate: Victoria, the incredibly beautiful girl who just moved in from Stockholm, bringing along her motorcycle and (older) boyfriend. Based on the popular TV show he himself directed –which was based, in turn, on the very popular book series Bert’s Diaries– Alfredson’s first film rearranges the conventional elements of the comedy subgenre “loss of virginity” to shape up a very unconventional social satire. Bert’s world (his schoolmates, his family, and the shows he watches) is somewhat a monstrous circus, a suburban amusement park that is sometimes surreal and sometimes even grotesque. Oh! If you really, really want to know how was Bert’s first time like, stay until the end of the credits and he’ll tell you himself.
