Synopsis
Killinggänget is the name of a group of Swedish actors, who are named like that (literally, “the goat-boy gang”) because of a recurrent character in their plays and TV shows. Ever since they started in 1991, the Killinggänget went from a Monty Python-like style to what they call “brown comedy”: the laughs are still there, but there’s also pain and tears, all brought up from the same existential tragedies, the same cruel capacity to find absurdity, loneliness, and misery beneath the clean image of Swedish society. Around the year 2000, Alfredson became the “official director” of the troupe, and directed four TV films that form Four Shades of Brown –and have no common elements apart from a certain insistence in dysfunctional father-son relationships. From the story of the kid who leaves his dad speechless (too literally) to the one of the cooking class turned into a group therapy session for lonely people, things get more serious, desperate, more nod-in-your-throat: they get dark brown, almost black.
