Synopsis

At first sight Agustín’s physical deterioration seems to suggest that the title The Delay is the most accurate one to define the passing of time. But his daughter María is also in crisis, as she carries a rather joyless life. Far from the notion of dysfunctional family American cinema has transformed into a tight system of clichés, Rodrigo Plá chooses to describe a family through their affectionate bond. He builds his film right at the point of interaction between both the characters and two different times: his connection with the past; her difficult future. Plá’s narrative accuracy gets audiences involved in this simple story with no false notes. And Carlos Vallarino and Roxana Blanco are the great architects of this stripped-down, melancholic everyday life that becomes a show of domestic elements.
