Synopsis
The Iranian filmmaker who is imprisoned in his country has made another clandestine film, set in what seems to be his summer house by the sea. The film addresses similar issues to his previous one This Is Not a Film, but it’s more ambitious and has less narrative layers. The camera never leaves the house, so everything that takes place outside is seen from an indoor perspective, starting with the arrival of a man who enters the place with his dog. The very nice dog is there because –as we learn from TV– dogs are now forbidden and need to be hidden. The man closes doors and windows, but at some point a couple manages to sneak into the house with some mysterious motives. They claim to be on the run, but we can’t tell if they’re telling the truth or lying. The relationship and confusion between the main character and the woman –who has suicidal tendencies–, will enable the appearance of Panahi and his cameras. And it transforms Pardé into the portrait of a persecuted artist who is capable of transmitting a feeling of enclosure and oppression, almost like in a sci-fi movie. DL
