Synopsis
An exceptional comedian, melancholic clown, innovative filmmaker, committed philanthropist, talented performer, unknown musical genius, and delayed Broadway success. Each one of Jerry Lewis’ luminous sides is featured in this documentary that was broadcasted in late 2011 by the Encore network, and directed by dazzled and confessed fan Gregg Barson. Structured in two full active moments in the comedian’s career (the 2009-2011 world tour on board of a Vegas-like show, and his visit to the 2009 Cannes Film Festival), the documentary nurtures from the testimonies of such fans as Steven Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld, Quentin Tarantino, Alec Baldwin and Carol Burnett, and goes over the career of a man as questioned in the US as he was canonized by the press and audiences in countries like France, Italy, Germany, and Japan. Barson chooses to avoid the most controversial aspects of his personality –although Lewis’ famous temper inevitably appears– in a decision that sounds capricious, and might actually be so. But it’s welcomed: Jerry has been condemned to oblivion for too long to not focus exclusively on the overwhelming evidences of his unique talent. MP
