Synopsis

This is a must for many reasons, and one of them, as important as any other, is that we can verify how much the world has changed. Five kids in high school detention –all of them with problems on their shoulders, wounded, and prone to have even more wounds than to take care of themselves– dance at the rhythm of a slow and claustrophobic sentimental choreography throughout almost a hundred minutes, always on the verge of theater or psychodrama. This is a film we’ve programmed in V&G because even when it is “G” –that genre in itself called high school– it is also a proud “V” for its own merit, and for the prevailing circumstances: you had to be very bold to make such an evasively deep film as The Breakfast Club out of hardcore mainstream. You also had to be very talented and a perfect zeitgeist interpreter to make this story become one of the most popular films in the planet. The world is different for the following reason: John Hughes, 1950-2009. MP
