Synopsis

With tiny production values and huge aesthetic and political relevance, Hernández Cordón’s film is extremely personal, playful, hugely ironic and deeply critical, and dialogues with both his previous films and the ones of his colleagues.

Shot entirely in a warehouse, toned towards yellow, and featuring the use of masks to reinforce the character’s schematic nature, the film revolves around two protagonists: Pepe Moco, a slightly mentally-challenged young man who tries to convince people to vote a presidential candidate who promises to take Guatemala into its first World Cup (an incredibly true fact); and Beto, a kid who intervenes the city’s walls and kicks a ball to anyone he crosses in his way. The encounter of these characters results in a conflict that will end up creating a friendship based on the past and present of a country that is plagued with misery, oblivion, and sadness. VB
