Synopsis

The 2002 edition of Bafici featured the documentary The Legend of Leigh Bowery, directed by Charles Atlas. Leigh Bowery was an artist, designer, queer icon, and full-time provocateur of the Eighties. More than a decade later, another film by Charles Atlas about a provocative artist (several ones, actually) is featured in Bafici. Turning is a documentary about the concert of the same name that toured in Europe: a collaboration between Antony & The Johnsons with Atlas, an invitation to a trip through the feminine universe with the music of Antony and Atlas’ footage. The show features “13 beauties”, who also speak out about music, emotions, and labels. Turning is a documentary that puts music in a dialogue with issues like the perception of gender identity. And it does so with Atlas’ warm perspective, from the inside. And with Antony’s poetry and music, including one of his most famous lines: “One day I’ll grow up and be a beautiful woman”. JPF
