LIVE FROM BROOKLYN

New York-born guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, one of the most interesting artists on the international contemporary scene, will perform with his trio – also featuring Rick Rosato (bass) and Colin Stranahan (drums) – on Saturday, Nov 23 at 8 PM at Teatro Pte. Alvear. This will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy his remarkable technique and heartfelt playing style. “For me, jazz is a tradition, and it implies a feeling and a style of playing,” he has recently stated in an interview. Also the musician from Brooklyn will conduct a guitar clinic at Café Vinilo on Sunday, Nov 24 at 3 PM. Tickets for the concert and the clinic are already on sale: on this website and at the box office of Teatro Alvear (from Tue to Sat, noon to 8 PM) and at Tu Entrada (from Mon to Sat, same hours).

A MAJOR CULTURAL EVENT

The Festival’s great opening concert scheduled for this coming Wednesday at 8.30 PM at Usina del Arte will feature stellar artists: the Dutch ICP Orchestra, a long-standing ensemble at the forefront of European jazz. BAJ Artistic Director Adrian Iaies has written a praiseful note about them, which allows us to understand what they represent to the Festival and the local jazz scene:

ICP ORCHESTRA TO OPEN THE FESTIVAL

The Festival’s great opening concert scheduled for Wednesday, Nov 20 at 8.30 PM at the auditorium of the Usina del Arte will feature stellar artists. They are the talented musicians who make up the Dutch ICP Orchestra, a long-standing ensemble that has been at the forefront of European jazz since its foundation in 1967 by drummer Han Bennink and pianist-composer Misha Mengelberg (the other original member, saxophonist William Breuker, left the band in 1974). Currently, the ICP plays live as a mixed group: part jazz band, part chamber orchestra. The space between Misha’s piano and Han’s drums is occupied by a string trio (viola, cello and double bass), and across from them is the wind section. The special attractiveness of this band lies in the captivating dialogue between sections and the talent of musicians, coming for the first time to Argentina. Another source of pride for the Festival.

“CROSSINGS”, A FESTIVAL CLASSIC

One of the star sections of the Festival, the one that brings together local musicians and Festival’s guests onto the same stage, will have a great kick off concert on Wednesday, Nov 20. Danish bassist Anders Christensen will come together with Argentine musicians Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla (drums), Cirilo Fernández (piano), Sergio Wagner (trumpet) and Pablo Moser (sax) at Café Vinilo at 10 PM. At the same time in Thelonious Club, there will be another Argentine-Danish collaboration between guitarist-composer Jakob Bro and the band of pianist Santiago Leibson, bassist Juan Pablo Bayón and drummer Pablo Díaz. Both concerts will be just the beginning of a rich nightly lineup – a unique, one-off event for the enjoyment of musicians and the audience alike.
