A TREAT FOR THE AUDIENCE

The free outdoor concert featuring Brazilian artists Rosa Passos and Banda Mantiqueira – scheduled for Sunday, Nov 24 at 9 PM on a stage especially mounted at Av. del Libertador and Agüero – will be a highlight of the Festival. The renowned singer, who performed at the closing of BAJ 08, and the engaging big band, which closed the Festival last year, promise a night of good Brazilian music for a most likely copious audience. Rosa Passos will perform material from her new album, which covers the rich work by Djavan, accompanied by Fábio Torres (piano), Lula Galvao (guitar), Paulo Paulelli (double bass), Celso de Almeia (drums), Iván Sacerdote (clarinet) and Vinicius Dorín (sax). And Banda Mantiqueira will come with its captivating combination of choro, frevo, samba and jazz music, played by a selection of outstanding musicians. Without a doubt, this will be a celebration night for the Festival and the City.

A HIGHLY PROMISING FESTIVAL

From November 20 to 25, Buenos Aires will enjoy the world’s best jazz with a new edition of the Festival Internacional Buenos Aires Jazz 2013 and, as every year since 2008, its major music program featuring great international artists, who come to Buenos Aires for the first time – another distinctive aspect of the event. The lineup includes Italian musicians Flavio Boltro and Eric Legnini, the American Jonathan Kreisberg, Darmon Meader and Frank Carlberg, and the Dutch Guus Janssen, among others. Also, several generations of the best musicians from the ever-active national scene, such as world-renowned Santa Fe-born pianist Leo Genovese as well as Ernesto Jodos, Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla, Horacio Fumero, Mariano Loiácono, Roxana Amed and the like. Additionally, the Festival will host its own characteristic activities including very special onstage collaborations between outstanding fellow musicians of different nationalities (“Crossings”) and an increasingly stronger educational section (workshops and clinics conducted by the Festival’s greatest guest artists in “The Classroom”). The opening and closing concerts are conceptually in line with a constant search and aesthetic open-mindedness: the Dutch ICP Orchestra will kick off the Festival at Usina del Arte on Wednesday, Nov 20 (see article), and Italian artists Flavio Boltro (trumpet) together with the quartet led by pianist Eric Legnini will play at the closing on Monday, Nov 25 on the same beautiful stage in the neighborhood of La Boca. The night before the closing is looking to be a highly attended: there will be a concert featuring Brazilian Rosa Passos and Orquesta Mantiqueira in a free outdoor concert on Sunday, Nov 24 on a stage especially mounted for the event at Av. Libertador and Agüero.
