Biography

If the intention of the BAJ is to help forge artistic links between little-known, high-caliber musicians and our City, Frank Carlberg is a perfect example. In 2010 this pianist, composer, arranger, producer and extraordinary teacher, born in Finland and based in New York, was involved in several projects in these latitudes, including his work with the students of the Manuel de Falla Conservatory. On this trip, he established a professional relationship with Roxana Amed, which later led to their tribute album to Alejandra Pizarnik La sombra de su sombra, which he will now present at the Festival. Artistically, Carlberg is a unique and highly eclectic musician, which can be easily confirmed by taking a look at the wide variety of projects he has embarked on: numerous ensembles such as his Tivoli Trio, vocal music (the aforementioned duo with Roxana Amed, or with Christine Correa), or his exploration of the intersections between jazz and poetry from authors such as Jack Kerouac or Wallace Stevens, among others. Carlberg has developed a very personal pianistic style that nevertheless draws on influences

from such piano masters as Paul Bley and Ran Blake. This solo piano concert will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy his talent live.
