Synopsis

Brazilian bassist Rogério Botter Maio will come to Buenos Aires to play material from his new album, Sobre o silêncio, with trio mates Vinícius Gomes (acoustic guitar) and Fábio Leandro (piano and vocals). Featuring guest appearances from Dom Salvador, Roberto Menescal and Entre Ríos-born Carlos Aguirre, the album comprises his original compositions, which show the rich harmonies and melodies of Brazilian rhythms such as samba, frevo, xaxado, baião and choro. Born in São Paulo, Rogério first studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Graz, Austria, and then at the Berklee College of Music in New York, where he played with Paquito D’Rivera, Lionel Hampton, Claudio Roditi and Leny Andrade. In the US, he recorded with Gerry Mulligan and Jane Duboc for the album Paraíso in 1993; with Manfredo Fest for Fascinating Rhythm in 1996; with Naná Vasconcelos for Fragmentos; and with Transition trio, alongside Dom Salvador and Duduka Da Fonseca, for Transition in 1997. Back in Brazil, he played with Hermeto Pascoal, the Orquestra Popular de Câmara, Jane Duboc, Soundscape Big Band, Ná Ozzetti and Dom Salvador. Besides Sobre o silêncio, he released the following solo albums: Crescendo (United States, 1996), Aprendiz (2000), Prazer da Espera (2006) and Tudo por um ocaso (2009).
