Synopsis

Until November 8, the BAJ.13 received numerous applications from singers and musicians interested in participating in the workshop by Darmon Meader, a key figure in the vocal jazz world for his work as director of popular quartet New York Voices. He is also active as a teacher and has served as an instrumental arranger. On Friday, Nov. 22 Darmon will focus on the analysis of the piece: how to tell a story, Jazz Improvisation 1. On Saturday, Nov. 23: Jazz Improvisation 2. On Sunday, Nov. 24: basic arrangements for soloist and trio & working with the rhythm section. The sessions will be coordinated and translated by Roxana Amed.

Singer and composer Roxana Amed has released six albums throughout her career, each of which is conceptually unique. Such is the case of her first two releases with Pedro Aznar; her following duo album with Adrián Iaies, Cinemateca finlandesa, featuring originals as well as pieces by Monk and Cuchi Leguizamón; and Inocencia, where she is accompanied by Guillermo Klein in a tribute to Argentine folk music. Her latest CD, La sombra de su sombra, combines poetry by Alejandra Pizarnik with music by Finnish pianist and composer Frank Carlberg, an active member of New York City’s avant-garde jazz scene.
