Ramiro Penovi

Born in Necochea, in the province of Buenos Aires, Penovi took his first guitar lessons at age 13 with Oscar Mutio. In 1997 he settled in Buenos Aires, where he eventually became one of Walter Malosetti’s favourite disciples, later to study harmony and improvisation with Armando Alonso. He has taken part in workshops alongside such big names as Michael Brecker and Sid Jacobs, and shared the stage with renowned local artists like Fats Fernández, Jorge Navarro, Javier and Walter Malosetti, with whom he recorded Relax (MDR, 2003), Manuel Ochoa and Oscar Serrano’s big band.
At present, Ramiro studies harmony and composition with Daniel Montes. He carries out an intense teaching activity and is the founder of the Satch music school. He is a member of the band of violinist Sophie Lüssi, with whom he recorded Bird Migrations (MDR, 2007). He is a permanent guest of Adrián Iaies’s trio.
